Arise: Restart of large wind power project

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR JUDICIAL REVIEW

Arise is one of Sweden's leading independent players in onshore wind power. The company develops renewable energy for a sustainable future. The Kölvallen wind farm in Hälsingland will contain 47 wind turbines with a planned production of 700 million kWh per year, and with an investment of approximately SEK 2.5 billion.

When Arise faced completely new conditions after a ruling by the Swedish Land and Environment Courts, the company chose Ecogain as their consultant.

ECOGAIN'S STRATEGIC SUPPORT

Thanks to a strong CV in wind power, Ecogain gained the trust with applying changes to both EIA, consultations and several crucial inventories. Everything would form the basis for a new permit application.

FROM FIELDWORK TO FINAL APPLICATION

In close cooperation with Arise, Ecogain ran the entire process, from field work to finished application. Wind turbines are high structures that are visible from far away and can affect their surroundings. Protected species of birds are often important to take into account. Ecogain's expertise in birds, in this case golden eagles and forest hens, has been an important part of the decision-making basis for the final design of the facility. Arise and Ecogain have, in close cooperation, identified suitable positions for the wind turbines and adapted the entire plant to the natural environment.

Arise's experience in building value through green electricity generation, together with Ecogain's expertise and strategic environmental support, resulted in a new application where the plant was designed with respect to biodiversity, residents and other interests and with continued economic viability for the company.

The new application was completed in February 2019.
