IKEA: Right focus ecology for office building

BREEAM is one of the most well-known sustainability certification schemes, and is mainly used to certify buildings. The certification can also be used for entire neighborhoods.

IKEA uses BREEAM as a method for environmental certification on their buildings. Ecogain has helped IKEA with the ecological parts of BREEAM certifications in several locations in the country.

Ecogain was commissioned to verify the ecological parts of BREEAM for IKEA's planning of new office buildings in Älmhult. The ecological elements relate to land use and ecology. Developers who consider aspects of land use and ecology early on in the planning process can make a real difference to biodiversity with little effort and thus gain several green points in the certification.

For IKEA, the end result will be a BREEAM rating. In addition, the certification demonstrates a responsibility that the company can use to maintain and strengthen its green brand.
