Ecogain on the side of business for national biodiversity initiative

Today, Ecogain signs an opinion piece calling on the government to develop an ambitious biodiversity action plan.

- "We stand side by side with the business community on this issue. Swedish companies want clear and long-term rules to be able to manage the crises for nature and the climate," says Ecogain's CEO Katarina Walter.

The escalation of the climate crisis and recent reports on biodiversity loss have highlighted the major challenges we face. If we do not reverse the trend, the ecosystem services on which we depend are at risk. This could have enormous consequences, not least for business. Behind the article in Dagens Industri are WWF and Ecogain together with Handelsbanken, Astrazeneca, Arla, Coop, Axfood and Swerock.

- Swedish companies realize that their business is threatened when biodiversity declines, and it is the business community that is showing the way forward. For example, the Swedish mining industry has developed Sweden's first industry roadmap for biodiversity," says Katarina Walter, CEO of Ecogain.

Calls for positive incentives and sectoral roadmaps

In the article, the authors call on the government to take responsibility and develop a comprehensive biodiversity plan. They propose a nature policy framework, industry roadmaps for biodiversity and positive incentives for conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

Earlier this year, Ecogain, together with the business network Business and Biodiversity Sweden, submitted the same proposal to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency during their work on the national action plan for biodiversity.

- Ecogain's goal is to help our customers on their nature-smart journey and to create concrete solutions that benefit both business and sustainability. This is why we look so positively at common rules and long-term plans," adds Katarina Walter.
