As the first industry organization, Svemin, in collaboration with Ecogain, has now developed a roadmap for how the Swedish mining and minerals industry should work to promote biodiversity; Mining with Nature.

-"The time is now ripe to join forces to preserve and increase biodiversity in the places where the mining industry operates. We are doing this to achieve uniformity in how we act, but also to be able to show in a transparent way how the mining industry works. Our ambition is also that it will serve as an inspiration for the mining industry internationally and for other industries.

- Maria Sunér Fleming, CEO of the mining industry organization Svemin, project owner and initiator of the initiative.

The roadmap uses a science-based approach and the application of the hierarchy of considerations to achieve the goal of the mining and minerals industry contributing to biodiversity enhancement by 2030 in all regions where operations and exploration are taking place.

"One success factor for each stakeholder behind the goal is to set their own biodiversity targets, appoint mandates and allocate resources to work towards the targets. In more concrete terms, the work can involve mapping risks, dependencies and opportunities to create added value for biodiversity. In this way, it is possible to work systematically and achieve more. It is also important to document, monitor and communicate the work on biodiversity. This enables shared learning within the industry and society at large."
